The battle of the makeup setting sprays!!!

Sorry for the long break, I need a few months to gather back momentum and come back with fresh, innovative thoughts.

In today’s post I thought i would do a comparison that would prove to be very helpful to so many of you! “The battle of the makeup setting sprays.”

I currently have 5 setting sprays in possession and wanted to share my thoughts with you guys on which ones come out on top.

Stay tuned if you want to hear more about setting sprays from brands such as; Australis, Mario Badescu, Urban Decay, Too Faced and MAC.

 

Australis make-up finishing spritz
This is the cheapest setting spray out of the 5. I picked it up from Priceline at a RRP of $15.95. It was the first setting spray I owned and did a good job at the time.

The product comes in a 150mL bottle with a soft fragrance consisting of a mix of aloe vera and rose water. Reciting from the back of the bottle, it promises to prevent makeup from fading throughout the day and sets makeup firmly in place for long-lasting wear.

Over the years I have been using this product, it has a done a fairly good job in setting my makeup. As I stated earlier, it was my first setting spray so there weren’t any high expectations at the time.

In terms of longevity it tends to do the job just fine – there will always be better make-up sprays out there but for the price and quality you can’t beat this!

Mario Badescu facial spray
I recently got introduced to this facial spray by the beauty community on Youtube (the cause of so many impulse buys!). I noticed that everybody would rave about it, so I thought I should see what all the fuss was about.

I picked up the Mario Badescu facial spray from Mecca Maxima. There are two sizes, 118mL and 236mL. The RRP ranges from $9-$17 (smallest size to largest).

I would go as far to say that this setting spray has a similar scent to the Australis one – consisting of an aroma of aloe, herbs and rosewater.

Reading the back of the bottle it claims to set makeup, soothe skin when dehydrated and give the skin a quick boost. Whilst using this product, I was able to compare the claims with the proper use when on my skin.

I used this product in a variety of ways – before and after my makeup. I found that using this product before applying your makeup makes your skin nice and smooth for a clear application, whereas applying the spray afterwards acted as a seal for the makeup.

Since purchasing this product mid last year I’ve already gone through 1 and a half bottles. I find this product really good value for money that provides long lasting make-up wear and good for those days when you need a fresh spritz throughout the day.

Urban Decay All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray
This product was my first high end setting spray purchase after hearing rave reviews about it.

I purchased this product from Mecca Maxima in the smaller size bottle so I could test it out before I tried the full size product. You can either purchase this product in a 30mL bottle or a 118mL bottle. The 30mL bottle retails for $23AUD, whereas the 118mL bottles retails for $49AUD.

Although this product is a bit on the pricey side, I found very minimal faults. Everything seemed to be perfect for this spray, although personally I do not like the scent and think its a bit too chemical for my liking.

This spray states to be oil and paraben free with temperature control technology. Due to the nature of this setting spray, I would opt for a cheaper spray with less hold for everyday wear.

Overall I really love this setting spray and believe it is perfect when you’re wearing your makeup for 12+ hours or going to an event due to the strong hold of this product. I would highly recommend!!!

Too Faced Hangover 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer & Setting Spray
This setting spray would have to be one of my favourites out of the 5, mainly because it can be used both before and after applying your makeup.

The product can be purchased from Mecca Maxima in a 120mL bottle for $46AUD. I would personally say that this product is a little more on the expensive side, although because it serves two purposes I would say that its a reasonable price for the purpose.

The product produces a coconut scent that claims to be silicone, alcohol and oil free. This product is perfect for those who take pride in their skin and want the best finish for their makeup.

Overall, this product ticks so many boxes and on top of it all, lasts throughout the day! It is everything you need in a setting spray and you definitely won’t regret the purchase!

MAC Prep + Prime Fix+
The MAC fix+ is my most recent purchase out of the 5 and safe to say that I love it!

The beauty of this product is that it is highly multi-use!! It claims to be most suited to refreshing the skin and acting as a finishing mist.
If you’ve heard of this product before you would also known the common use of applying this product onto a brush before using highlighters and glitters to create a more intense solution.

I love the sleek design of this product and the ease of use in applying the mist over your face or a brush. I personally purchased this product Myer but it is available at a variety of stores (see below for a full list). It comes in a 100mL bottle for a RRP of $32AUD.

The scent is subtle and not too overpowering. It creates a long-lasting finish and an even spread of product to create the perfect look.

Overall, I would say this product is in my top setting sprays and never fails to complete the job it is designed to do.
